Toy Seagull Knitting Pattern. Level: Improver.
Download our PDF knitting pattern to knit our iconic toy seagull – Solomon C.Gull.
Solomon truly is a great knitting project. The bulk of him is knitted in garter stitch, with lots of increasing, decreasing, casting on and off. Then his wings introduce garter stitch intarsia, i.e. knitting a colour block (see also our Garter Stitch Colour Block Cushion). His feet introduce short row shaping, and his legs i-cord! If you’re familiar with standard knitting techniques, and would like to try a couple of new ones, then he’s the perfect project.
We use Drops Eskimo 100% wool to knit Solomon, and whilst other alternative yarns are available, he does look super duper knitted out of this! You will also need 7mm knitting needles, and 6-6.5mm DPNs (double pointed needles).
We highly recommend giving him a whirl!
Also available as a knitting kit.
Solomon’s finished size is 54cms from beak to tail.
N.B. we’re always being asked whether we sell the pattern for our little gull. We don’t. He’s our Colonel Sanders secret recipe gull, but, if you don’t want a 54cm gull, then you can use Aran weight yarn and 4.5mm needles, for something that will be similar in size to Cedric, or DK yarn and 3.25mm needles, to get something similar to the little gull. Notice we’ve suggested smaller than usual needles. This is to stop the stuffing poking out!
