Garter Stitch Christmas Stocking PDF Knitting Pattern.
Knit a garter stitch Christmas stocking, with our instant download knitting pattern PDF. We’ve listed this as a beginner’s pattern, because it is surprisingly simple, and once you’ve knitted it, you’ll realise that you’ve knitted a sock, and when you realise you’ve knitted a sock, you may just be tempted to knit… a pair of socks!
Ok, so socks have a couple of oddities, the first you’ll get to is the heel. You’ll need a stitch holder, because you’ll be working on just half of the stitches of the row. You’ll need to turn the heel, but don’t panic, it just involves S1 (slip next stitch onto right-hand needle without knitting it), and K2tog (knit the next 2 stitches together). Ok, that’s the end of oddity number one (and it has very detailed instructions how to do it). Oddity 2, involves the “pick up and knit” technique. Well… you might as well start now, because if you ever want to knit a jumper with a neck, you’ll need to learn how to do it! Here’s a video to help. Right, well that’s the oddities over and done with. As I advise ALL of my learners, don’t think, just do! It really does work!
Basically then, you’ll be using these techniques…
- Cast on
- Knit stitch
- Pick up and knit
- Cast off
Nothing to see here…
This really is a great pattern for new knitters because it only uses a few basic knitting techniques, so if you can cast on, and knit (and there is quite a lot of knit, I must admit…), pick up those needles, and get cracking! Once you’ve done a couple of rows, you’ll be away. And if you get stuck? Fret not, just get in touch via our Contact Us page, and we’ll lend a helping hand.
To knit the stockings, you’ll need 2 x 50g Balls of DROPS Alaska in your main colour, and 1 x 50g ball for the contrasting cuff an toe, and 1 x 50g ball for the contrasting heel, and a pair of 4.5mm knitting needles.
